Heritage Resources Programs Manager
Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Heritage Resources Program Manager oversees the management and promotion of Calgary's heritage resources. This role includes strategic planning, operational management, and community engagement. Key responsibilities involve managing the inventory, community program development, securing funding, and fostering relationships with diverse priority audiences to ensure the appreciation, identification, protection, and promotion of Calgary's heritage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
· Allocate resources to manage the Inventory, including human and financial aspects
· Assist in strategic planning and establishing organizational objectives
· Develop operational policies and procedures
· Monitor program budgets and oversee budget management by identifying and applying for grants and funding opportunities
· Hire, manage, and mentor program staff
Business Development
· Represent Heritage Calgary at official events and functions
· Promote programs to maximize earned revenue opportunities
Inventory Management
· Conduct in-person site visits to determine a property’s eligibility for listing on the Inventory
· Liaise with property owners, City of Calgary Heritage Planning department, and members of the heritage community
- Ensure that the CiviCRM and Heritage Calgary database is kept up to date with site information for tracking and reporting purposes
· Contract researchers, review and edit evaluations, and assemble reports for Board approval
Public Programs
· Cultivate and maintain reciprocal relationships with diverse communities, politicians, City of Calgary representatives, developers, urban planners, and heritage advocates
· Deliver public programs such as leading tours and presentations
· Collaborate with the Heritage Calgary team to determine topics of interest and/or training programs focused on heritage
· Draft plaques, including summary and images, and update plaques inventory when new ones are issued
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
· Post-secondary education in history, architecture, urban planning, heritage conservation, or a related field
Experience
· 3-5 years in managing heritage resources or similar programs, including overseeing budgets and staff.
· Background in strategic planning and operational management.
· Proven ability to secure and manage grants and funding opportunities.
· Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and property owners.
· Skilled in organizing and delivering public programs, tours, and presentations.
· Proficient in using database management systems such as CiviCRM or similar
Skills
· Strong project management skills
· Proficient Microsoft Office
· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
· Knowledge of the City of Calgary’s planning processes
· Familiarity with the ‘Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada’, ‘Statements of Significant’, and the evaluation process
